Davis Model Products is very proud to be the manufacturer of the world's quietest mufflers and pipes designed. As you know by now, this is not an unfounded claim, but a proven fact. Recognition that removes any doubts is hard to come by these days. These American engineered mufflers exceed all European and American sound level requirements. Incidentally, European limits are much more stringent than ours.

Value conscious modelers will really appreciate the unique universal adapter system employed. This enables you to simply and easily move the muffler from one engine to another, thereby saving money.

The SoundMaster design dramatically enhances your engine’s power over stock mufflers. FACT: Reducing sound by 3 dBA cuts the sound level in half. Howard Crispin, Chairman AMA Sound Committee, stated back in the Oct. 1988 Model Aviation magazine, “Tested an OS .61 with an OS muffler, then changed to a SoundMaster. It caused the sound level to drop from 97 dBA to 87.5 dBA, while the rpm went up 250 rpm without touching the needle.” (That’s more of a boost than you would get changing from 5 to 15% Nitro.)

Clarence Lee, engine expert and writer for R/C Modeler stated, “The SoundMaster is the best muffler system I have ever tested in all my years in the hobby.” Don Lowe, AMA president, runs an SM-GM and says, “It gives the power of a pipe, only it’s quieter.”

An important feature of the SoundMaster is the materials they are made from. They are not made of thin aluminum tubing, or a brittle aluminum die-casting. The SoundMaster is made of seamless alloy steel tubing silver- brazed into a rugged unit far stronger than any other muffler produced. Front sections and outlets on many models are machined from solid aluminum bar. SoundMaster will outlast any other muffler, and your engine as well. They may cost a little more than other so-called mufflers, but after all, they’re not just a hollow shell! You will find them to be a great investment in your hobby. The SM-1 weighs approximately one ounce more than a stock muffler. Pressure taps are installed on all 2-cycle units. SoundMaster mufflers are finished in black heat resistant epoxy paint, with the exception of the helicopter model that is nickel-plated for high heat operation.

The non-perforated stainless steel strap system will not stretch or break, making the SoundMaster both strong and attractive. But, beauty is only skin deep and the best part of the SoundMaster is inside. Mulitple internal chambers are partitioned by swirl acoustic feedback baffling. And if that’s not enough, the longer GM “Super Silent” will not only drop the sound further, but also gives you a bigger boost of power. It’s like running a tuned pipe system without tuning, only quieter.

A SoundMaster is available to fit any size engine and installation. It will provide optimum performance while saving your field.

Picking The Right Muffler

“An educated consumer is our best customer.” Therefore, it is important to provide enough facts for you to make an educated decision. Engine manufacturers consider cost and size over effectiveness when designing their so-called mufflers. FACT: Mufflers & Pipes as complex as SoundMaster are costly to produce. FACT: Mufflers must fit in the engine box. This leads to inadequate muffler capacity.
Today’s higher powered engines now turn the same size propellers much faster than their predecessors. The more powerful the engine, the larger the muffler needed for increased exhaust gases. Think of your engine as a pump. The faster it runs the more hot gas it pumps out. A sport .40 engine running at 11,000 rpm could use a smaller muffler than a hot .45 schnuerle at 15,500 rpm. If you looked at the muffler of both engines you would find they are both the same size. It is not uncommon for manufacturers to use the same size muffler for their .40, .45 or even .50. You can pick a SoundMaster from the attached list and be quite pleased, but you have an opportunity to maximize your engines performance with a tuned muffler.
Remember SoundMaster is a smart investment for several reasons. Most people are using one muffler for two, three, or more engines. The universal adapter system allows quick changing of your mufflers. Most engines are burning 10 or 15% nitro for improved idle and transition. These tuned mufflers can run 5% nitro with better performance and a savings on every gallon. SoundMaster allows more fun with extended flying time. You have read expert opinion, but now you will conclude SoundMaster is much more than the only truly quiet muffler. You may find a cheap yet ineffective manifold exhaust, but now you understand the value of a properly designed muffler. So pick the SoundMaster that best suits your present, and future needs.
